The Jorns JPM profile manipulator: fully automatic and flexible

The Jorns JPM profile manipulator is fully automatic and flexible in operation. In combination with the Jorns double bending machine, it can load, bend and unload several sheets of metal at the same time – completely automatically. Manual work is also no problem with the Jorns JPM profile manipulator. Once a task has to be carried out by hand, the system moves into park position. Human assistance re-mains indispensable.

Added care in material handling

The automatic vacuum suction system keeps a tight hold on the material – at no time in the process can it fall onto the floor, from loading through to unloading via the infeed table. Thanks to constant monitoring of the material handling process, scratches and deformation on the finished bending profile are prevented.

Space-saving automation solution

The double bending machine is loaded and unloaded from the front only, allowing for optimal utilisation of space at the operating site.

Efficient automation solution

The complex mechanical refitting of the system for special tasks is eliminated. Sheet strips or bent profiles with working surfaces from 50 mm up to a panel width of 1250 mm can be picked up and then set down again safely in a different location.

Reliable workflows

The output conveyor offers the machine operator the necessary buffer zone. The Jorns double bending machine and Jorns JPM profile manipulator continue to operate as long as the output conveyor has space or there is raw material available.

Outstanding flexibility

In addition to the fully automatic mode in combination with the Jorns JPM profile manipulator, the Jorns double bending machine also works as normal as a standalone unit.

This flexibility is particularly useful when the machine operator has to quickly bend an individual sheet. The Jorns JPM profile manipulator is then simply moved into the park position away from the working area. This gives your specialists on the machine enough freedom of movement and flexibility to feed the sheets and finished bending profiles in and out using the table.

Requirements: bending machine and material

The Jorns JPM profile manipulator can be retrofitted on any existing Jorns JDB double bending machine. The following requirements must be met in order to guarantee a smooth process:

Double bending machine

  • Automatic infeed tables with milled grooves in the tables (can be retrofitted)
  • Equipped with clamping finger
  • Up-to-date machine control system with interface to Jorns JPM profile manipulator (update or revision possible)

Sheet material

  • The sheet must be well aligned to a straightness of 0 to 20 mm
  • The sheet must be cut straight with a maximum camber of +/- 1 mm per 6400 mm
  • The sheet must not be oily or sticky so that it can be removed easily from the stack

Modular system design

The Jorns JPM profile manipulator has a modular design. An automatic or manual outfeed system can be added depending on your specific requirements. The bending profile is transferred to the outfeed system individually or in a stack, whereby the Jorns double bending machine can be loaded in three ways:

  • Automatically using the JPM from the stacking table in front of the bending machine
  • Manually by the operator
  • Additionally with the Jorns JS side infeed

The basic system of the JPM is installed on free-standing supports and screwed to the floor. This ensures barrier-free access for the operator; stacking tables can also be moved easily into the working area of the bending machine.

The system impresses thanks to its outstanding flexibility, which allows for the efficient, automatic production of bending profiles that are serial in nature. Thanks to the swing-out vacuum suction beams, narrow or wide profiles (up to 1250 mm width) can be reliably manipulated for loading and unloading, or for turning. The advantage here is that sheets are not left to fall onto the floor. Depending on the profile shape, a bent profile can be taken from above, below or from the front, meaning the largest possible variety of profiles can be manufactured completely automatically – without manual intervention.

The following axes give the Jorns JPM profile manipulator its outstanding flexibility:

Consists of several linear modules and moves horizontally at speeds of up to 1000 mm/s

JPM Z Achse 1920x1080 72dpi weiss

Z-axis

Moves vertically with a travel distance of 1000 mm at speeds of up to 800 mm/s

B-axis

Has a swivel area of up to 180° at speeds of up to 90°/s

JPM C Achse 1920x1080 72dpi weiss

C-axis

Swings the vacuum suction beams up to 90° at speeds of up to 45°/s

Simple teach-in programming

A manual control panel is used to manage and program the desired workflows for material handling on the Jorns JPM profile manipulator. This can be carried out easily thanks to teach-in programming. Here, the Jorns profile manipulator is brought directly into the corresponding positions step by step according to the program. The corresponding position values are recorded by the axis measuring system and saved in the control system. The full bending and manipulation program is then created. Advantages of teach-in programming: No knowledge of programming language is required. No additional robotics and CNC courses have to be visited following instruction.

System safety

As the Jorns JPM profile manipulator and Jorns JDB double bending machine work together as a fully automated production unit, the entire system is enclosed by a protective casing. A coordinated safety system consisting of light barriers, monitored sliding doors and emergency stop buttons ensures safe entry, plus extremely safe working conditions for the machine operator.

Limitations – what the Jorns profile manipulator cannot do (yet)

  • Material currently being bent cannot be guided.
  • Certain profiles can only be bent in semi-automatic mode and must be finished by hand.
  • Perforated or expanded sheets cannot be drawn in.
