Customized Jorns bending machine in length of 14 meters
This bending machine is a customized solution for a well-known European bus manufacturer to produce bending profiles with a length of 14 meters in the highest possible angular accuracy. To simplify material handling, the machine was equipped with a side loading- and unloading station, ball tables, clamping fingers and fully automatic SLS roller shears, which allows an automatic cutting- and bending process.

The basic equipment of the Jorns JB bending machine is supplemented by a sophisticated safety system. The highest level of safety is guaranteed at all times without restricting everyday work on the machine, even when processing corrugated material. The safety equipment on the machine and the use of a three-ray laser system reduces the risk of accidents when closing the clamping tool and the shear in semi-automatic operation.

The clamping cylinders of the Jorns JB bending machine can be controlled individually. This not only allows maximum clamping force for achieving closed hems or for a parallel mechanical closing of the clamping tool but also pre-tensioned closing – the material springback seen when press-closing the open hems is compensated for. The result is parallel hems tailored to the profile.

The stop holders are each equipped with a servo drive and enable the use of all back stop fingers when bending parallel, tapered or overlapped profiles. In this way, the highest level of precision is guaranteed across the entire length, even when processing narrow, tapered sheet strips. The control system calculates the required stop position in order to maintain the programmed shank lengths on both profile ends.

Durable and reliable shears are absolutely essential for the accurate cutting of a parallel or tapered sheet strip, not to mention a precise bending profile.
Depending on the system, cutting speeds of up to 1300 mm/s or a maximum cutting capacity of up to 3mm mild steel are possible.

The clamping units are each equipped with a servo drive and enable the use of all clamping fingers when bending parallel, tapered or overlapped profiles. When four or more “electric clamping fingers, tapered” are installed, the machine offers a multi zone clamping system as standard: 2 identical parallel, tapered or overlapped profiles are bent at the same time. This almost doubles the productivity of the Jorns JDB double bending machine.
When there are eight or more clamping fingers, the double bending machine can be equipped with the 4-part clamping system as a supplement. This is a prerequisite for being able to manufacture up to four identical bending profiles per bending cycle.

The various clamping positions allow efficient production of customer specific bending profiles with a very high degree of automation. The use of vacuum grippers helps that pre-bend profile elements with a height of more than 30 mm can be bent fully automated on the second processing side.
